The Budding Zoologist

For children in Grades K-3

February 18-22, 2013

Monday-Friday, 2:00-4:00 pm

Join Animal Embassy for an insider’s view of our public exhibit. With over 76 different species, representing birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and insects, participants will have an amazing hands-on experience. Meet Okefenokee the Alligator Snapping turtle, Taiga the Eurasian Eagle owl, Sydney the Eclectus parrot, Knuffle bunny and her babies, Bangalore the Dwarf Reticulated python, and many more! Learn about local and exotic wildlife while feeding and handling animals from around the world. This program will provide your budding zoologist with amazing access to our incredible staff and Animal Ambassadors. Many of our animals are not on exhibit and are seen only through special program offerings.

Program will run with a minimum of 8 children. Maximum 10 children.

 

Cost:

$140 per child for 5-day program

$125 per child for 5-day program for SM&NC Members

 

The Budding Ecologist

For children in Grades K-3

April 15-19, 2013

Monday-Friday, 3:00 – 5:00 pm

 

This program is perfect for any child fascinated by the wonders of nature. Discover the interconnectedness of life, as well as amazing life processes such as hibernation, migration, metamorphosis, and more. Witness the miracle of birth as we watch salamander and frog eggs develop before our eyes, share the excitement as we reunite local wildlife with their natural habitats, and uncover some of the mysteries of life as we explore local habitats. Our amazing group of over 100 rescued and adopted Animal Ambassadors will help students to understand the importance of all living creatures and the role many of them play in the successful function of nature, as your “Budding Ecologist’s” interests bloom.  

Program will run with a minimum of 8 children. Maximum 10-12 children.

The Budding Naturalist

For children entering Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5

July 8-11, 2013

Monday-Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm

 

This program is perfect for any nature lover and will help develop a deeper appreciation for exotic animals and far-away places, as well as for our local wildlife and habitats. With access to over 100 rescued and adopted exotic animals residing in our public exhibit, as well as to the beautiful property of the Stamford Museum & Nature Center and surrounding woodland preserve, students will receive amazing cross-training as a “Budding Naturalist.” Discover life under the surface of our local aquatic habitats (with nets and fish traps), check our camera trap (for images of elusive forest-dwelling creatures), learn field techniques to make plaster casts of animal tracks, and learn techniques for the safe handling of our rescued ambassadors and field subjects.

Maximum 10-12 children per program.

$120 per child for 4-day program

Keeper in Training

For students entering Grades 6-9

July 22-25, 2013

Monday-Thursday, 3:00-5:00 pm

 

This program is perfect for any child with a fascination for the diversity of life on Earth, an interest in animal husbandry, or in future careers in veterinary science, education or other zoology related subjects. With our ever growing collection of rescued and adopted animals, children will have access to an amazing assemblage of creatures, representing diverse species and ecosystems. Animal Embassy is full of surprises; get a front row seat to the action and excitement with this incredible hands-on offering. Although not a prerequisite, this is excellent training for any student that may be interested in our intern program for high school and college students.

 

Cost:

$120 per child for 4-day program

$105 per child for 4-day program for SM&NC Members
